Chiang Mai Itinerary

Day 1

A visit to one of the largest city malls or shopping centers will give your family an opportunity to exhange money at the bank, pick up snacks, view the shops, and buy anything you may need for the week ahead.

A late afternoon/early evening tour of the city which should include the moat surrounding the old city. The moat is currently (May 2008) being refurbished. When finished, it will be lit up and fountains will shoot water skywards and provide an excellent photo opportunity.

Finish the day with a Traditional Lana "Khantoke" dinner with entertainment. Thai dancers dressed in local costumes will perform dances for your entertainment.

Day 2

In the morning, tour one of the most revered temples in all of Thailand and the most visited tourist attraction in all of Chiang Mai - Wat Phrathat at Doi Suthep. Located on a mountain on the outskirts of Chiang Mai and with a panoramic view of the whole city this is another great place to take pictures.

During the afternoon, tour some of the local handicraft industries in BorSang village.

Head to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar area for dinner. Afterwards, spend as long as you want shopping for souveniors or watch a show.

Day 3

Doi Inthanon

Visit the highest peak in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, approximately 8,500 feet above sea level and a 2 hr. drive south of Chiang Mai. During the drive enjoy the beautiful scenery. See the King and Queen Pagodas, and have lunch at the restaurant in National Park Headquarters. Spend time at one of the many waterfalls in the national park.

Head back to Chiang Mai for the evening as the park will be closed at dusk.

Day 4

Take a full day tour to Chiang Rai. On route you will pass beautiful mountains and valleys, stopover at the Hot Springs, and then proceed to Chiang Saen, which was the old capital of the Lanna Kingdom. The Golden Triangle is where three countries Thailand, Burma and Laos meet at the Maesai Border. This is the northern most town in Thailand. On the return trip to Chiang Mai you can visit the beautiful Temple Wat Rongkhun.

Day 5

The Buddhist temple tour may not be of interest to the children but a trip to see the elephants, perhaps even an elephant ride followed by a trip to the man made lake will certainly bring a large smile.

Watch the elephants perform. Take pictures of your children with the Chiang Mai elephants. They will enjoy showing these photos to their friends back home.

In the afternoon, visit the man made lake. Take a stroll, lay by the side of the lake as the children play in the water. Enjoy a chilled drink in lake side hut and then order a freshly cooked meal followed by local fruits.

In the evening, return to the Night Bazaar and Pantip Plaza for more shopping. Have dinner at a favorite pub/restaurant before you return to your hotel for the night.

Day 6

After breakfast, take a trip to the Chiang Mai Zoo. Restaurants and snacks are available throughout the Zoo. You will get lots of exercise if you walk the whole way around the zoo.

In the afternoon head to the Sports Complex (700 year stadium) where there is a large adult pool and a pool for small children.

Day 7

Take a trip to Bua Tong waterfall. Your kids will be fascinated when they are able to walk up the falls. The rocks are covered with calcium and have a non-slip surface.

Order a packed lunch from your hotel and spend the afternoon relaxing near the falls.

Head back to Chiang Mai for the evening and enjoy a few games of bowling at Central Mall.
